Description:

This example illustrates the fluid-structure-thermal interaction between a panel and a viscous flow. The fluid flows over the panel, which deforms due to mechanical and thermal loads. The panel deformations the cause significant changes in the fluid flow.

The followin figure shows the grids used to compute the fluid solution as well as the structural deformation and tempreature fields.

The next figure shows the structural displacement, the heat loads and the structural deformations. The displacements are amplified for visualization.

The deformations of the panel then induce changes in the fluid flow. In this case, a shock wave is formed in the leading edge of the panel. The fluid solution is shown in the following series of images.

Observations:

• Even though the structural deformations are not quite large, they are enough to induce large variations in the flow field.
• Again, conservative transfer of loads is required due to the large discrepancy in the element size between the fluid and structural grids.
