Description:

This example shows some pictures taken from a simulation of the aerodynamics around the space shuttle. The first image shows the CAD lines defining the geometry of the shuttle.

The following image shows the surface of the shuttle shaded according to the fluid pressure and iluminated using one light source located at infinity.

The next figure shows another view of the shuttle shaded with pressures and the contour lines of Mach number computed on a cutting plane parallel to the shuttle axis.

Observations:

• The use of lights to iluminate the scene on top of the pressure shading provides a better perception of the three-dimensional geometry of the shuttle.
• The contour lines give an indication of the shock waves formed in front of the shuttle.
